Excel Essentials for MPA students
This free Excel course is strongly recommended for all KU MPA students who are not proficient with Excel. Students who are enrolled in PUAD 835, 836, 837, or 853 should complete this workshop or the online alternative. Instructors of quantitative MPA classes will assume that all students have this essential level of proficiency with Excel. Those who are highly proficient at Excel will have the option to self-test out.
What you will learn:
By the end of class, attendees will understand how to work with Excel to better leverage its functionality. This course will cover creating and organizing worksheets and workbooks as well as creating tables, formulas, and functions that are commonly used in day-to-day activities. Attendees will be given the opportunity to work within Excel with instructor assistance so that real-world applications can be understood and practiced.
What you will need:
For this course, attendees will need an active KU Online ID. No additional hardware, software, or account permissions are needed.
Course objectives:
By the end of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Manage and create workbooks and worksheets.
- Navigate through the Excel environment to find specific data or formulas.
- Create formulas and use functions to find mean, median, and mode.
- Format worksheets and workbooks using themes, page setup, headers and footers, and images.
- Manipulate views of the workbooks/sheets.
- Understand how to use Auto-fill and Flash-Fill.
- Format cells and ranges.
- Create and manage tables.
- Use conditional logic to format cells.
- Create and format Charts.
