Skype for Business - Phone Service Basics (PC)

What you will learn:

Learn how to become more mobile with the Skype for Business Phone Service, an extension to Skype for Business/Lync that adds a voice telephony features to the standard software. With the phone service, you can make and receive telephone calls from numbers internal and external to KU from almost anywhere using your computer, smartphone, and/or tablet. In addition to making and receiving calls, it offers Unified Messaging via your Outlook mailbox. Your voice messages will be delivered to you within Outlook and can be retrieved via phone, web, desktop, or mobile app.

Course objectives:

By the end of class, you will learn how to make and receive phone calls, check voicemail, and set up call forwarding and other call features. In the hands on activities, you will practice using the call options, such as Ignore, Forwarding, Hold, Mute, and the dial pad. We will also demo how to record personal greetings, experiment with advanced voicemail options such as listening to an overview of your day’s calendar, and more.

Prerequisites

We highly recommend that you attend any prerequisite workshops listed below since familiarity with the skills and concepts taught in them is essential to benefit fully from subsequent workshops.

However, if you have independently learned the skills and concepts of the required workshop(s), your "equivalent skills" will be accepted as a substitute for attending the prerequisite workshop(s).

You are expected to know the commands and concepts listed within the descriptions for the prerequisite workshop. In most cases, you can also refer to workshop handouts and other helpful materials from the workshop description page.

In addition to any specific prerequisites listed, you should have, as a minimum, basic computing skills.

While it isn't a requirement to attend Skype for Business Basics, we encourage you to launch Skype for Business and learn the basic functionality (instant message, contacts and groups, etc.) before attending Phone Service Basics.
